Artificial storages can suffer from silting up, due to the accumulation of sediment mainly carried during floods. The management of this phenomenon through the emptying of storages, it is a necessary procedure not only for reasons related to the exercise of the dam but most of all for public safety reasons. This procedure can also have significant effects on the fluvial ecosystems downstream. These effects need to be supervised and limited as much as possible through a suitable planning and scheduling of the emptying operations.
